Down Syndrome and what Chiropractic can do

Do you wonder how chiropractic could help your child with Down Syndrome?

Chiropractic is a safe and effective natural alternative to many ailments including improving the quality of life for children with down syndrome. Adjustments helps insure your nervous system is working properly which reduces inflammation in the body.  Some of the improvements that children experience under chiropractic care include:

  • Increased calmness
  • An increase in patience
  • Increased ability in walking and running
  • General coordination improvements
  • Increased immunity
  • Gentle care for atlantoaxial Instability
  • Relief for organ related symptoms

Having any subluxation (misalignment in your spine) corrected can only help create a better and more normal function for an already challenged system.  Children with Down Syndrome can experience heart problems or issues relating to the GI tract. Chiropractic adjustments free up disturbances in the nervous system, allowing things to work better.

Chiropractic does not specifically cure anything or specifically fix anything.  What chiropractic does is removes any interference in your nervous system.  If you have any pressure on your nervous system in any location it will cause loss of function, sickness and disease.  This happens because the brain can't communicate with the body properly.  Let's compare a few less complex situations... a water hose, if you were watering the garden and someone stepped or kinked your hose; what happens to the water?  It stops right, or it trickles out.  The same thing is what happens when hard bones press on soft nerve roots.  Except it's not water that's being stopped it's vital messages that the brain is sending to cells, tissues and organs.  Another example is if you are an asthmatic and it is allergy season... once your air way becomes inflamed from allergens it makes it even harder for you to breathe because your airway is narrowed.  When the bones of your spinal column shift out of alignment it actually narrows the hole that surround your nerve root causing direct pressure on that nerve root again leading to loss of vital information.
